Training #3: Stadium Run

Somehow I ended up at the Klang stadium this evening and since I was there, I did an eleven lap run on the outer track. Tho stadium boasts a rubber/synthetic track and I was glad that I brought my racing flats along. The first few laps were really fast, resulting in a 10:30 for 2 kilometers. It was during that time I swallowed one of those winged insects which were flying around at dusk. Yuck.

Anyways, the result of running on the track was 5.23 km covered in 27 minutes 35 seconds. Not bad for a run done in the spur of the moment.

Training #2

It’s quite interesting what one sprint session can do for you on the following day’s run. I took a flat route near my place, this time bringing along the phone to log some data. Turns out I ran 8.63 kilometres in 53:34, which translates to a 6:13 min/km pace. Not bad, but then there’s the overarching goal of going under 6 min/km.

The route itself was a 2 lap out and back kind of thing, and part of it consisted of the desolate stretch of road which I used for sprints yesterday. Tomorrow I’ll be doing hills instead.

Training #1

Went for a run this morning. But instead of the normal run through my housing area, I decided to do sprints on a desolate piece of road. I did about 230m X 4 inter-spaced with the equivalent distance in slow jogs. Total distance covered today was around 5.5 KM on a really flat route and I came home after 36 minutes (the slow jogs were really slow…LOL).

Welcome Back :)

I love running. With these three words I greet you welcome to version 2 of Kakilari.com. I started Kakilari (the phrase meaning running fanatic in Malay) two years ago to keep track of my progress, training for the Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2011. With the 2012 edition of the race looming I figure that start afresh with the blog.

I’ve always loved running. Running to me is several things rolled into one. It’s a form of stress relieve, a form of communion with God (it’s strange that the songs playing in my head while I run happen to be church hymms), a form of discovering a new place, a form of exercise and in often times, something that challenges me as well.

I ended last year with a new time for the full marathon (5 hours 50 minutes), and a new PB for the half marathon (2 hours 12 minutes). My hopes for this year? Definitely to get better personal bests and to get into more interesting races.
